Who are affected by disabilities? There are over one billion people and families with disabilities in the world today. A staggering figure that relates to one in every six people in the world who suffer in this way. Joni and Ken have given their lives to bringing Christ's love to people with disabilities. In the spirit of 1 Corinthians 1:4, they have been gracious to share in this interview recorded at the Joni and Friends International Disabilities Center in Agoura Hills, California.
Joni Eareckson Tada is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Joni and Friends International Disabilities Center. She is an international advocate for people with disabilities. A diving accident in 1967 left Joni Eareckson, then 17, a quadriplegic in a wheelchair, unable to use her hands. After two years of rehabilitation she emerged with new skills and a fresh determination to help others in similar situations. Her best-selling autobiography which became a feature film has been translated into many languages. She has traveled to 45 nations, written over 70 books and magazine articles, has a daily radio program that reaches more than one million people each week, and has received numerous honorary doctorates, and multiple awards from prestigious organizations, which includes being inducted to the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Joni's been featured on TV shows like "Larry King Live" and ABC World News Tonight, as well as radio shows like Focus on the Family. She is married to Ken Tada, a retired history teacher and football coach. He is a member of the International Board of Directors of Joni and Friends International Disabilities Center.
