THE GOOD LIFE WITH DR. DANNY - “RICHARD IBEKWE - FUSION”
"Fusion"
Richard Ibekwe
How does a boy who was born in London - after his parents moved there from Nigeria for his mother to complete her PhD - become an award-winning researcher at MIT? This is the story of Richard Ikewe, one with a surprise twist during his senior year at MIT that led to the path he is on today.
Richard Ibekwe is a Nuclear Science and Engineering PhD candidate at MIT working at the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, dedicated to long-term fusion research, focusing on magnet technology. His research involves the development of high-temperature superconducting cables and magnets that are tolerant to dropouts (defects that cause a local drop in critical current density). His research is part of the SPARC project. He graduated from MIT with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Science and Engineering and in Mechanical Engineering.
